NCAA Football and Madden fan applies for UND head coaching job

Today, we bring you quite the odd story that went viral a couple days ago after hitting the web. Only a few weeks ago, the University of North Dakota fired their head coach of six seasons, leaving a vacancy that needed to be filled. After seeing about the job opening on Twitter, Christopher McComas, an IT employee at Marshall University, decided to throw his hate into the ring with one of the funniest applications you will ever see that included a letter and a Powerpoint presentation.

McComas didn’t have any playing or coaching experience, but instead cited his lifelong fandom of Marshall University and his attendance of most every one of their games over the last 30 or so years. He then goes on to discuss his prowess at the NCAA Football and Madden franchises, including his philosophy for playing football.

While it may be long, I’m going to post the entire letter here as it is just plain genius and worth a read. The Powerpoint Presentation will also be included below in the gallery.

Currently, I work in IT at a college in West Virginia, but I have many years of experience with football, starting with attending my first Marshall University football game when I was 3 years old. In the past 30 years I’ve only missed a handful of Marshall’s home games, attended many road games, and all of their bowl games.

All the while I played various football games including Madden on Sega Genesis where I completely dominated with the Bills and Thurman Thomas. Seriously, was he a beast on the game or was he a beast because I was a football genius controlling him? I then moved on to a Playstation gaming system and purchased NCAA Football every year and put together several programs that completely dominated the recruiting scene and college football winning several national titles with Marshall University. I took them from a decent Mid-American Conference School on the game to a perennial national power that makes Nick Saban look like a chump. One year my third string quarterback left school early to enter the NFL Draft, he was a first round pick. Boom.

My football philosophy is basically an attacking one. We’re going to give AIR RAID a whole new definition. Theoretically how many times do you think a team can pass in a game? Challenge accepted. We’re going 5 wide, chucking the pigskin all over the place. Never punt. Onside every time. Chip Kelly will be calling me to learn my offense. We will put on an exciting brand of football, we will pack them into the Alerus Center night in and night out, go ahead and blow the roof off the place and add about 35,000 seats to that place.

I would love to speak with you further regarding this opening and what I can bring to UND, putting UND back on the national map and making NDSU our (b****).

Attached to this email you will find a PowerPoint with more information.

Thanks,

Christopher McComas

PS – I prefer Coke to Pepsi, so go ahead and fill the fridge up in the head coach’s office with Coke.

Rumor: More On Sony Buying Crash Bandicoot

Last week it was speculated Sony might be buying Crash Bandicoot back from Activision. More news has surfaced on this big rumor.

A reddit post has intensified that the rumor of Sony buying Crash Bandicoot and reviving him on the PS4. The official Crash Bandicoot website was made by Activision no longer loads up. It was last active on October 8th. It’s also worth mentioning Crash Bandicoot no longer appears on Activision’s own website either.

Activision hasn’t made a Crash game since 2008 and cancelled a game in 2010. Since then, they were doing nothing with the character. With the PS4 out, Sony might be hoping to bring the character back for the system. The rumor last week suggested Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica might be co-developing the game. How cool would that be if it comes true!

Just How Big is Killzone 3 in Terms of Size?

If there’s one thing that says a lot about a game is the size, with Sony’s next big title Killzone 3 releasing soon, just how does it stack up?

Today at JPS headquarters, we got quite the interesting package straight from Sony, a prerelease copy of the upcoming title Killzone 3. The Killzone series has a lot going on from amazing graphics to a top class online multiplayer. Fans who might have played the demo may recall a rather large download size, nearly 4 GB in size. So this brings up the question, just how big is Killzone 3? Its quite the understable question, most of the higher file size games are either top tier or have nearly endless things to do; some examples would be Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2, God of War 3 and the highest of all Final Fantasy XIII.

As our first of many topics to give you all the details on this powerhouse, we are happy to announce that Killzone 3 is 41.5 GB making it just a little bit over Final Fantasy XIII making it the largest current Playstation 3 title. This is quite a shock considering the last game (Killzone 2) clocked in with a respectable 12 GB! With this news though, I’m sure you have to be wondering if there’s a data install. I mean most largest games have one, and you want something this nice to run perfectly right? Well we are happy to announce that Killzone 3 officially has NO data install and runs perfectly!

Stay tuned for more information in the days to come.

Samurai Warriors 4-II Review

One of the challenges of having a popular series is offering something new and different. After a certain point you run out of ideas, with some games inadvertently changing the thing that people loved. This has resulted in some series being fairly stagnate. With Samurai Warriors 4-II offering a different take on the original title, will it be enough for fans or is it only for those who missed the original release?

Samurai Warriors 4-II tells various stories focusing on a number of different characters. Each story has its own tone and feel, which makes them feel different, though your enjoyment is going to depend on how much you care about the characters and the history of those involved. With that being said, with more than a couple different stories to experience, there is sure to be at least one that piques your interest.

Screen-Shot-2015-10-03-at-9.26.28-PM-480x300

Beyond the stories Samurai Warriors 4-II holds true to what you would expect from a Dynasty Warriors-esque title. There are a lot of enemies, most of which you can defeat in a couple of hits, across a huge map with various objectives you need to complete. Every character has a series of simple combos and at least one special attack that will lay waste to those around you. You can further the depth by making use of the cancel system to prolong your combos or use the evasive dodge to avoid damage, though you don’t need to master these concepts to be successful in the world of Samurai Warriors 4-II. The same goes for telling the AI what to do, but that can help you complete a number of optional objectives.

Part of what makes Samurai Warriors 4-II enjoyable is the smooth gameplay and solid graphics. Even when a large number of enemies were on screen the game played without any noticeable lag and the animations were vivid enough to make Samurai Warriors 4-II feel superior to similar low budget games. This is most noticeable during the cutscenes, which are surprisingly well done for a series usually remembered and played for the mindless combat.

Screen-Shot-2015-10-03-at-9.19.32-PM-480x300

As mentioned above, every level features a number of objectives, some of which are optional, where as others are not, that you can do. Each of these offer a nice change of pace to the repetitive gameplay, with them adding a little bit of depth to an otherwise simple game. The other fun thing is changing how you go about the mission can also change which objectives you get. So if you didn’t bother to capture a place or defeat a boss one run and then did so in another run, you might get a new event to complete.

Another way Samurai Warriors 4-II lets you do a little more is through customizable characters. Those interested in creating their own character can customize practically any aspect of their character and even load custom images off a USB to use in game. From there, said characters can be used in modes/online to dominate your foes or just screw around and have fun.

Screen-Shot-2015-10-01-at-9.16.16-AM-480x300

Speaking of having fun, those interested in the more mindless gameplay aspects will enjoy the tower. In this mode you have 10 minutes to progress through as many floors and objectives as you can. Completing a floor will add 2 minutes to the clock, so it’s less about how well you manage your time and more about how quickly you complete the objectives. Once your timer runs out, you fall in combat or choose to escape you’ll leave the tower and be awarded your spoils.

The only real downside to Samurai Warriors 4-II is that it isn’t anything a Samurai/Dynasty Warriors fan hasn’t seen before. A lot of the same characters, will defeat the same enemies, while trying to complete various objectives for their overarching goals. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially since the characters are different enough to have fun running around, just that Samurai Warriors 4-II is more of the same. If that’s something that sounds appealing to you, then it’s a pleasant looking experience that runs quite well on the PlayStation 4. However, if you were hoping for a more tactical version or just a deeper version of Samurai Warriors, then Samurai Warriors 4-II is not that game.

[Editor’s Note: Samurai Warriors 4-II was reviewed on PS4 platform. The game was provided to us by the publisher for review purposes.]

Skyrim Sidequest – Complete Companions Subquest Guide

small
After starting the Companions Faction Quests, you may come to a point where it seems you cannot access the next quest to progress the Companions story. The reason for this is because certain quests, such as Proving Honor, or Blood’s Honor, require that you complete one or more Companions Subquests before being given access to more story quests.

The Companions Subquests become available in phases; the first phase of subquests become available after completing the Take Up Arms quest. The second phase of subquests are only available after completing the main quest The Silver Hand. The third and final phase of subquests opens up once the last Companions Main quest: Glory of the Dead has been completed.

The twelve of the thirteen Companions Subquests all have a randomized factor to them; the one exception being the Purity subquest in the final phase. Below we have listed all thirteen Companions Subquests.

Phase 1 Subquests

Animal Extermination Part 1

Subquest Companion: Aela the Huntress
Speak to Aela and see what type of work she has available. Her first subquest will require that you kill some random animal that has found its way into the home or business of a random resident of Skyrim. Travel to the reported location of the disturbance, kill said animal, return to Aela and inform her that the animal has been dealt with to complete the subquest.

Animal Extermination Part 2

Subquest Companion: Aela the Huntress
The next job that Aela will have for you is to clear out a random animal den that she will mark on your map. Once the den is clear, return to Jorrvaskr and inform Aela of your deed to complete this subquest.

Hired Muscle

Subquest Companion: Farkas
When asking Farkas for some work, he will explain that a random citizen has requested the help if the Companions. It seems said citizen needs a random ruffian ruffed up a bit to end a dispute between the two. Head on over to the location given to you by Farkas and beat up, NOT KILL, the ruffian (just use your fists to be safe). Return to Farkas in Jorrvaskr to inform him of your actions to receive your reward and complete the subquest.

Trouble in Skyrim

Subquest Companion: Farkas
This time around, Farkas informs you of a random group that is causing trouble and it is your job to kill their leader. Once the location is provided, head there and proceed to kill everyone. Once the leader has been dispatched, head back to Farkas and inform him that the leader has been dealt with to complete this subquest. Note: only the leader needs to be killed in order to complete this subquest, so if the opportunity presents itself where you can slay just the leader and leave unnoticed, do so.

Family Heirloom

Subquest Companion: Skjor or Vilkas
Speak with either Skjor or Vilkas to learn of another client who has asked the Companions to locate and retrieve a priceless heirloom. The location is usually a camp, keep, cave, or dungeon, and is usually tucked away in a chest somewhere. You need not kill anyone to complete this task so stealth tactics work just fine (such as sneaking into a giant camp and picking the lock of the chest without being noticed) in order to retrieve the heirloom. Once you have the heirloom, return to whomever assigned you the job to complete this subquest.

Escaped Criminal

Subquest Companion: Skjor or Vilkas
Speak with either Skjor of Vilkas to learn that a criminal has eluded local authorities and they have turned to the Companions for assistance. The last known whereabouts of the criminal are given to you and you must seek out the criminal and slay him. Once you have done so, return who Skjor or Vilkas to receive your cut of the reward.

Rescue Mission

Subquest Companion: Skjor or Vilkas
After speaking with either Vilkas or Skjor, you learn that a very important person has been kidnapped and the victims family, friends, or associates have contracted the Companions to locate said kidnapped person. Head over to the location that is given to you by Skjor or Vilkas and proceed to kill everyone. The kidnapped is usually located near the group leader, or locked in a cage which you can lock-pick or simply get the key from the dead leader.

Note: Depending on the location, the kidnapped person can be the first person you see and they may attempt to attack you. Simply sheath your weapon or speak to them immediately to inform them of your intentions to make them your new follower, then proceed to kill everyone else or simply head back to the surface.

Once back on the surface, fast travel to the nearest safe location and walk back to Whiterun (personally I just fast traveled back to Whiterun but reports indicate that this can cause the kidnapped person to die). Inform Skjor or Vilkas that the person has been rescued in order to complete the subquest and receive your reward.

Phase 2 Subquests

Minor Spoilers Ahead
All of the Phase 2 Subquests are provided by Aela the Huntress and can only be done after the Main Companion quest The Silver Hand, as the phase 2 subquests tell the tale of Aela getting her revenge on The Silver Hand for the death of Skjor.

Striking the Heart

Aela has decided to talk the fight directly to the Silver Hand and will ask you to clear out one of their encampments. Your job is to destroy one of the Silver Hand leaders of a random camp. Once Aela gives you the location, head over there and kill everyone; there are times where the Leader will actually attempt to hide from you as well so make sure you do not leave until he or she is dead. Afterwards, return to Aela in Jorrvaskr and inform her that the job is finished in order to complete this subquest.

Stealing Plans

The next subquest Aela has for you is the retrieval of some Silver Hand plans located in in a random encampment. Much like the Family Heirloom subquest, this does not require any bloodshed and will usually be in a cave, keep, castle, or camp, but these plans are actually sitting out rather than being tucked away inside a chest. Once the plans have been located, return them to Aela to complete this subquest.

Retrieval

Aela now mentions that she has located another fragment of Ysgramor’s blade that is being held by the Silver Hand. Once Aela provides you with the location, head over and remove the Silver Hand; the fragment is usually found on a table or some other surface in the same room as the leader of the Silver Hand that you killed. Once you have the fragment, return to Aela to complete this subquest and begin the next main companion’s quest: Blood’s Honor

Phase 3 / Final Phase

Remember, these subquests can only be performed after the Companions main quest Glory of the Dead has been completed.

Totems of Hircine

Subquest Companion: Aela the Huntress
Speak with Aela to learn of the Totem of Hircine and where it random location is. Travel to the aforementioned location with Aela in tow and dispatch of any enemies in the area. The totem will be located inside a chest or furnishing in the room furthest from the areas entrance. Once you have the totem, return to the Underforge in Whiterun and place the totem in the stand located within to complete the subquest. Note: this subquest is repeatable for additional totems.

Purity

Subquest Companion: Farkas or Vilkas
Speak with either Farkas or his brother Vilkas to learn that they share the wishes of Kodlak Whitemane and request the same help that you provided him. If you took the advice we gave during Blood’s Honor, you should have a spare Glenmoril Witch’s head for this quest. If you don’t, head back over to the Glenmoril Coven to obtain another head and return to Vilkas or Farkas (whichever you started the subquest with).

Take your fellow shield-brother and the Glenmoril Witch’s head to Ysgramor’s Tomb and head to the Flame of the Harbinger and repeat the ritual that you used to help Farkas or Vilkas just as you did with Kodlak. Once you have completed the ritual, the subquest is complete; you can also repeat the ritual to help yourself, BUT BE WARNED the results of this ritual are permanent so make sure this is what you want, as there is no going back.

Dragon Seekers

Subquest Companion: Vilkas or Farkas
Speak with either Vilkas or Farkas to learn of a dragon attacking a random location. Head over to the location, slay the dragon, and speak with the companion that followed you to the battle to complete this subquest.
